Cystic Acne Cure

A cystic acne cure may be within reach. Cystic acne is a severe form that contains bacteria, dead skin and white blood cells. Cysts are quite painful and form below the surface of the skin causing damage to the tissue of the skin. Experts observe that cysts are badly infected nodules and might be more appropriately called nodulocystic acne. Treatment of acne that reaches this point can be very challenging. To avoid excessive skin damage, these cysts should be treated as quickly as possible, because they spread and almost always leave scars.

Stages of Acne and Treatment Options

Acne starts when the pores of the skin are plugged and then continues to develop in stages. In stage one, it generally appears as blackheads and whiteheads. These are referred to as comedones with whiteheads called closed and blackheads called open. In stage two, they appear as zits or pimples. Their medical names are pustules and papules. These zits appear when stage one becomes inflamed. As these become more serious, they enter the third stage when cysts and nodules form. Stage three manifests itself as very large and deep pockets of acne. Stages two and three may develop scarring of the skin.

Regimen for Cystic Acne Cure

In most severe form of acne, cysts that have become inflamed develop. Treatment requires patience and time. Your physician will need to be involved and will likely provide a combination of therapies to cure and control the acne while minimizing the scarring that might form. This combination regimen may include topical, oral as well as physical treatments. The therapy might include: oral antibiotics, isotretinoin, birth control pills for female patients, surgical procedures or injection of corticosteroid into the lesion.

Isotretonoin as Acne Treatment

Used for acne that has not responded to other treatments, isotretinoin is a powerful cystic acne cure. A form of vitamin A, isotretinoin is a retinoid. It helps to address the four primary reasons acne is formed:

-    Clogged Pores
-    Excess oil
-    The bacteria p.acnes, and
-    Inflammation

The prescribed dosages of isotretinoin is generally one to two tablets per day for as long as twenty weeks. Isotretinoin should not be taken without medical direction and the dermatologist will determine the dosage regime.

Side Effects of Isotretinoin

Before taking isotretinoin, women must be in constant contact with their doctors as it may be harmful to fetus development. All possibility of pregnancy must be eliminated before beginning any regimen as this must NOT be given during pregnancy. Be sure to stay in close contact with your doctors and follow their instructions very carefully. Additional side effects may include headaches, joint pains, depression, nausea and others. Be very sure to keep each of your doctor appointments while taking isotretinoin.

Oral Antibiotics as Acne Treatment

The p.acnes bacteria can be reduced substantially by the use of broad-spectrum antibiotics. By reducing the bacterium population, the inflammation is reduced. Antibiotic drugs may include erythromycin, tetracycline or doxycycline.

Oral Contraceptives for Women as Acne Treatment

Some birth control pills cause the sebaceous glands to become overactive producing more sebum (oil). Overactive sebaceous glands are among the main causes of acne. Some oral contraceptives have been developed that actually minimize the production of excessive sebum. As we’ve said before, these drugs should not be taken without medical supervision. At times you need may need to have multiple conversations with a medical team to include dermatologist, gynecologist and primary care physician.

Injection of Corticosteroid as Acne Treatment

As the name implies corticosteroid is a steroid and the cyst is injected with a mild steroid. The acne is reduces significantly by the steroid within a few days. Because this injection completely dries the cyst, it removes the possibility of scarring. In the treatment process the doctor may need to drain the cyst by cutting it open. Do not try this at home as great skill and appropriate instruments are required to perform this procedure.

Great blog post by the way. I’ve been trying to get rid of acne for 2 years now, with no success. I have tried Proactiv Solution but it seemed to have a bad reaction with my face, as it caused some dryness and irritation. Wouldn’t recommend using it for anyone trying to get rid of acne.
